Tadeusz Wojciechowski

Tadeusz Wojciechowski A violinist, chamber musician and conductor, one of the leading Polish middle-generation bandmasters. At a young age started to work for the National Theatre in Warsaw as a choir member, managed at that time by an outstanding director Kazimierz Dejmek. He graduated from the Musical Academy in Warsaw receiving two diplomas: in a cello class (1976) conducted by Andrzej Orkisz and in a conducting class (1979) conducted by Stanisław Wisłocki. He improved his cello skills in the Parisian National Conservatoire (1973-1974) in a master’s class conducted by Bernard Michelin. At that time, he worked with such bands as Orchestre de Versaille, Les Musiciens de Paris, Orchestre des Pasdeloup, Orchestre de Colonne i Orchestre de Conservatoire. In the years 1976-1977 Tadeusz Wojciechowski was a concertmaster of the Polish Chamber Orchestra (currently Sinfonia Varsovia) directed by Jerzy Maksymiuk with which he went on a tour of Italy, Germany and Great Britain, among others, recording for EMI record company. At the same time, from 1976, he began to work for the Great Theatre in Warsaw as a conductor (since 1983). In 1982 he was invited to the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen where, in the years 1983-1996, he was the main conductor; he cooperates with the Opera until this day. At that time he performed in such prestigious opera theatres as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Royal Opera in Stockholm and Royal Opera in Oslo. In the years 2005-2008 he was an artistic director of the Łódź Philharmonic Orchestra. Tadeusz Wojciechowski is a winner of many awards: as a violinist – 2nd prize in the  Danczowski National Competition in Poznań (1974), as a chamber musician – 3rd prize in the International Contemporary Music Competition  "Gaudeamus" in Rotterdam  (1973), as a conductor – 2nd prize in an International Competition in Besançon (France, 1979) and 3rd prize and an award by the minister of culture and art in the Fitelberg International Competition in Katowice (1979). In 1994 he became a director of the Orchestra and Choir of the Polish Radio in Kraków and held this position until the band’s dissolution. Soon afterwards he was appointed by the Minister of Culture for the position of director of the Great Theatre – National Opera in Warsaw. He held this position until 1996. In the years 1998-2004 he was an artistic director of the Musical Festival in Łańcut and Artur Malawski Philharmonic Orchestra in Rzeszów. In 2002 he became a managing conductor of the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Symphonic Orchestra, Bydgoszcz. He performed in many countries: Germany, France, Great Britain, Luxemburg, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Slovenia, Italy, Turkey, USA, Mexico, Columbia and Japan. In Poland, he works with all symphony orchestras and Sinfonia Varsovia. Tadeusz Wojciechowski is the first guest conductor of the National Latvian Opera in Riga. He works on a permanent basis with the Opera Theatre in Munich and the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen. Since September 2009 he has been holding position of an artistic director of the Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus. He has made numerous recordings for the Polish and Danish Radio. His repertoire comprises over 40 opera masterpieces and the majority of the symphonic repertoire. In 2007, maestro Tadeusz Wojciechowski received a Silver Medal "Person of Cultural Merit - Gloria Artis" awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
